Case Study: Parkwood Court – Intelligent Lighting for a Modern Social Housing Care Facility

About This Project

Client Overview

Parkwood Court is a large, modern social housing care facility where creating a comfortable, well-lit living environment sits alongside important requirements around lighting performance, emergency lighting and social housing lighting compliance.

For this project, Lux Bright brought together intelligent technology, carefully selected luminaires and advanced lighting controls for social housing to create a lighting solution suited to the needs of the facility.

Project Overview

The Parkwood Court project centred around creating a lighting scheme that could deliver more than illumination alone.

A full lighting survey was carried out to CIBSE LG9, with the emergency lighting meeting the requirements of BAFE SP203-4.

Alongside this, SMARTLED technology was incorporated to provide instant visibility of compliance levels and notifications of failed luminaires, while advanced daylight control and dimming were included to aid with future energy savings.

The result is a considered lighting solution that combines compliance, intelligent control and comfortable illumination.

Our Approach

At the heart of the scheme is SMARTLED technology.

The technology provides instant information on compliance levels, as well as notifications of any failed luminaires. This means faults can be identified promptly, allowing for timely repair.

Across the facility, the lighting scheme incorporates a selection of Lux Bright fittings, including the Monza / Monza Panel, Modena and Madison.

Together, these elements form part of a scheme designed to provide a comfortable, well-lit living environment while meeting the project’s lighting and emergency lighting requirements.

Making Better Use of Daylight

The lighting solution at Parkwood Court doesn’t simply provide light, it can make better use of the natural light already available.

Advanced daylight control allows the fittings to respond to available daylight, while dimming enables lighting levels to be reduced when appropriate.

By avoiding the need for lighting to continually operate at full output, these controls have been incorporated to aid with future energy savings while maintaining a comfortable lit environment.

Compliance at a Glance

Knowing the status of lighting and emergency lighting is an important part of the Parkwood Court solution.

SMARTLED provides instant visibility of compliance levels and notifications of failed luminaires, allowing issues to be identified and repairs to be undertaken in a timely manner.

This intelligent technology sits alongside the project’s full CIBSE LG9 lighting survey and meets emergency lighting regulations and requirements, including BAFE SP203-4.

Results

Parkwood Court now has a lighting scheme that brings together the key elements identified for the project: comfortable illumination, SMARTLED technology, compliance visibility, emergency lighting regulations and intelligent lighting control.

Advanced daylight control and dimming have been incorporated to aid with future energy savings, while SMARTLED provides instant information on compliance levels and notifications when luminaires fail.

Most importantly, all of these elements come together within a lighting scheme designed to provide a comfortable, well-lit living environment for this modern social housing care facility.
