Client Overview
Plymouth Community Homes (PCH) is the largest social housing landlord in Plymouth, providing homes for over 35,000 people in Plymouth and the surrounding areas. They are focused on delivering great services and improving lives in the communities that they operate in.
Project Overview
PCH partnered with Lux Bright due to their intention to work with a UK-based lighting manufacturer as well as the external lighting solution we offered. The main requirement for the project was to have luminaires made of polycarbonate due to the high salt content as a coastal city.
A large majority of PCH’s existing lighting was reaching the end of its usable life and mainly consistent of fluorescent lamps, including the popular 28W 2D lamp, phased out from September 2023 onwards. As a result, PCH had high maintenance costs due to depleting stocks which prompted LED lighting upgrades.
Our Approach
When providing the required LED lighting upgrades, consideration was given to standardise as much as possible on the types of luminaires, including their colour and lighting controls within them.
This would ensure that any further maintenance required by PCH would be manageable, as the need for spare luminaires was reduced and familiarity with the luminaires used would lead to faster repair times. We also provided the SMARTLED remote monitoring and reporting platform to increase emergency lighting compliance. We also offered an extended warranty on the longer lasting Li-Ion-Phosphate emergency battery technology.
Technical Assurance
The LED lighting upgrades provided were standardised to ensure that future maintenance would be manageable. SMARTLED technology complies with BS 62034 and provides automated testing for emergency escape lighting batteries, reducing manual workloads and supporting long-term compliance. This approach ensured reliability, compliance, and reduced maintenance requirements.
Results
Lux Bright delivered LED lighting solution for PCH that considered structural requirements for the luminaires as well as consideration for long-term maintenance implications. The use of SMARTLED technology ensures that PCH meets emergency lighting compliance requirements as well as supporting maintenance planning.
